Coaches and Managers

Supporting our Teams

Gordon FC’s ongoing success is reliant on the support of community volunteers. We need coaches and managers for each team drawn from volunteer parents. In U6 to U11 we need parent Game Leaders for each game. Many perks come with these jobs including being closest to the game action, demonstrating our club values, seeing the players have fun and opportunities to enhance your skills (e.g. through coaching courses).

All coaches and managers receive a GFC polo and puffer jacket

Team Coach Role

Coaches should ideally come equipped with extraordinary patience, a sense of humour, an inclusive mindset, and a willingness to learn.

A Miniroos and Junior Teams parent-coach role includes:
  • Attend the Coaches and Managers Night which is held in March each year
  • Liaising with the weekday coach
  • Arriving early on Saturday/Sunday to prepare for the game
  • Working with your Team Manager to get players organised and ready at the correct field on time
  • Leading a simple team warm-up
  • Communicating starters and substitutions
  • Supporting player positioning, including assigning a goalkeeper if there isn’t a dedicated one
  • Gently guiding players during the game — staying calm, positive, and age-appropriate (no yelling)
  • Providing short, constructive messages at half-time and during substitutions
  • Rotating players as evenly as possible (and delegate if helpful)
  • Encouraging players to try new positions, pass the ball, spread out, and communicate
  • Praising effort, teamwork and positive play

Team Manager Role

A Team Manager’s role is mostly about making sure everyone knows where to be and when on game day. This includes checking player availability each week, helping top up numbers by borrowing players if needed, and coordinating communication with parents.

We also ask that all Team Managers attend our Coaches and Managers Night which is held in March each year.

On game day, managers support the coach and help get the players organised.

Miniroos Team Managers are also responsible for:
  • Finding a parent to act as Game Leader for each match (typically each team provides a Game Leader for one half)
  • Submitting the match score in Dribl after each game
  • Helping coordinate any optional training led by the parent-coach (often held on Sunday afternoons)
  • Setting up a parent roster for subs, fruit/snacks and Game Leading — this is optional but helps share the load across families

Junior Team Managers are also responsible for:
  • Submitting match sheets in Dribl prior to each game, ensuring all players are listed correctly and wearing the appropriate numbered jersey
  • Confirming the opposing team’s match sheet submission
  • Nominating a parent to act as AR (assistant referee, formerly known as a linesperson) if one has not been allocated
  • Nominating a parent to act as referee if one has not been provided

Beyond the above, managers can help build team spirit by encouraging photo sharing in team chats and organising the occasional get-together.

Important Info for Coaches & Managers 2026

All Coaches and Managers

Miniroos team coaches and managers (U6 to U11)

  • See this handy Minroos Rules Guide for 2026
  • For the miniroos age groups, coaches and managers won't see the players names on the match sheet in Dribl, this is only a requirement for the U12s and up. Instead, you should be able to see Contacts (opposition coach and manager) and the Score. Enter the score at end of each match after agreeing with opposition team.
  • How to Guide – Enter Scores

Junior and Senior team coaches and managers

As Match Sheet regulations will be enforced this 2026 season, it is important that all team officials are familiar with Dribl and the match sheet process.

For all competition age groups (U12s and above), Team Officials must complete the following in Dribl:
  • Assign a jersey number to each player. Please ensure player jersey numbers are correct in the days leading up to the game. Don’t leave this to the last minute.
  • Add any borrowed players to the match sheet
  • Ensure each player has a photo. You can add one if they don’t.
  • Mark all players as playing on the match sheet
  • Submit the match sheet well before the game starts
  • Confirm the opposition team’s submission of their match sheet.

These steps must be completed prior to kick-off. Failure to do so may result in penalties in accordance with NSFA regulations.

If a Team Manager is certain that a player is eligible but is not appearing on the match sheet:
  • Enter the player’s details (Full Name, Jersey Number, FFA ID) in the Disputes section of the match card prior to kick-off
  • Inform both the referee and the opposition team
Failure to follow these steps may result in the player being deemed ineligible

If all else fails, teams can still complete a Paper Match Sheet. It is the responsibility of the winning Team Manager to ensure that the paper match sheet is sent to competitions@nsfa.asn.au after the completion of the fixture.
